The Solution
Development of a centralized, scalable, and intuitive Data Unification Platform enabling self-service data mapping, transformation, validation, and harmonization with AI-driven automation.
To address these issues, a collaborative project was undertaken to develop the Data Unification Platform, a scalable, central, self-service data harmonization platform with an intuitive user interface. This solution empowers business users and data teams to autonomously map, transform, validate, and harmonize data from multiple sources into a standardized format across countries, categories, and functions.
The solution was carefully designed and implemented with the following key capabilities:
- Support for multiple source inputs including CSV file uploads and database queries (Databricks SQL Warehouse),
- Flexible target exports to databases or CSV files,
- Intuitive, step-by-step workflow guiding users through connection, mapping, transformation, review, and application,
- Advanced data transformations including complex column mapping, value lookups via managed lookup tables, concatenations, and data casting,
- Intelligent AI-assisted suggestions leveraging GenAI to automatically propose mapping rules and improve data quality,
- Robust validation and error handling, supporting error detection and display at the row and column level,
- Logging of user activities and harmonization executions for auditability,
- Scalable backend architecture deployed on Microsoft Azure, ensuring performance and security,
- Template management to save, reuse, and share harmonization configurations for recurring data scenarios. This functionality is especially valuable for less advanced or non-technical users, who may not have the expertise to manually define complex mapping and transformation rules. By simply selecting an existing template tailored to their business needs, these users can execute sophisticated data harmonization processes with minimal effort and without requiring in-depth technical knowledge.
A dedicated team of 6 experts from Clouds on Mars successfully delivered the project within 5 weeks. The project followed an agile sprint delivery approach, incorporated continuous integration and testing, and included thorough documentation and user training to ensure smooth adoption and handover.
