CHALLENGE

Production line issues were reported on a wipeable whiteboard – Production Control Board (PCB). The Line Leader had to enter the data manually into the destination system at the end of a shift. Problem No. 1 was that data on the wipeable whiteboard could be lost during the shift. Problem No. 2 was that some events/issues reported by IoT monitoring devices were missed and not reported. The manual process was prone to human error and was less efficient than the automated one. The improvement idea was to replace the existing manual solution with an IT application solution called ePCB.

The main objectives were:

  • to eliminate the situations when PCB data are lost
  • to enable presenting events data reported by IoT devices together with PCB data
  • to allow the automated process of PCB data transfer to the destination system

SOLUTION

We have proposed a solution that consisted of 2 main frontend blocks:

  • data entry application
  • presentation application (ePCB report)

The data entry app was based on the data structure that can be further supplied with aggregated data from IoT devices. As a mean of input, we have proposed using PowerApps canvas app, which functionalities can be further extended in the future iterations.

The presentation app was based on the data structure mentioned above with an additional set of data Clouds on Mars from the Traceability system and PLCs. We’ve proposed using Power BI as a framework to deliver this part of the solution.

RESULTS

  • improved PCB process – no situation when data is lost, including data reported by IOT
  • improved staff efficiency – decreased time spent on PCB
  • operational efficiency –production line tracking and improving made more efficient
